Sharon Kathleen Peak
Dec 15, 1942 - Aug 02, 2022

Sharon Kathleen (Freeman) Peak of Deepwater, Missouri, passed away on August 2, 2022, at the age of 79.

Sharon was born to Ralph and Marion (Worden) Freeman on December 15, 1942.  She was raised in Independence, Missouri and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1960.

Sharon was the queen of organization and utilized this talent throughout her life, in her home, hobbies, and employment.  Her clerical experience began at her parents’ insurance agency and later included legal secretarial work in the Jackson County, Missouri Prosecuting Attorney’s office.  Sharon served in various positions in the Greater Kansas City Arabian Horse Association for some 20 years and was granted a lifetime, honorary membership in the club to acknowledge her contributions.  She also managed her own business ventures, which included horse trailer sales, and buying and selling antiques.

Sharon helped to maintain the Freeman family genealogical history and played a part in coordinating large family reunions.  She loved the lake and enjoyed spending time with friends and neighbors in the cove near her home.  Other favorite past times included country dancing and singing Karaoke. Sharon was a gifted pianist and played many other instruments: flute, guitar and dulcimer to name a few. She had a passion for music of all types. Sharon had a deep love for animals, especially her dogs (and cats).  She also had her own horses and enjoyed cross country trail rides.

Sharon’s love for her daughter, granddaughters, and great grandsons was always at the forefront of her heart and mind. Her granddaughter Nicki White summed up the affect of that love in this letter, which she read to Sharon during her last days:

Grandma, I love you. I am forever grateful for your love. We had some good times together. We had a strong bond. We always will. I can’t imagine what life would have looked like without you as my grandma. You never judged me. You always were true. You never sugar coated anything. I admire that so much. It’s a rarity in this day and age. You loved a good laugh. And always took such good care of your doggies. You inspired me so much to be the woman I am today. Your grit, utmost strength, smarts, humility and independence are just a few beautiful lessons that I will always carry with me. The way that you carried yourself with unwavering confidence is one of the most important lessons for me. You loved to learn about things. And stood up for mankind.

I regret not being there for you more often. I wish I would have called more often to talk about life. Maybe you feel the same. We can call it even. That’s another lesson in itself, to be there for the ones you love the most more often. As much as you can. Your love and deep appreciation for Native American people may have influenced mine as well. We shared that in common. Our love of music is another common ground that I will always cherish. Especially old country and great songwriting. I know we will see you again and am so thankful you’re now at peace.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David Freeman.  She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Gagliardi) Huff (husband Don); granddaughters Alexandria Allen-Scruggs (wife Kelsey), Annamarie Scruggs (Dylan Greathouse) and Nicki White (husband Josh); great grandsons Wesley, Jaycen and Riley Greathouse and Dayson White; and sister Lois (Freeman) Wheeler (husband Larry).
