Dean Karl Johnson, Age: 79

Dean Karl Johnson, 79, formerly of Hutchinson, KS, passed away November 18, 2022. He was born October 25, 1943, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Karl and Helen Johnson. 

 

Dean spent his early years in Haven, KS, where he was active in both 4H and Future Farmers of America. After graduating from Haven High School, he attended Kansas State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science and also served two years in the National Guard. His degree led him to a career in banking, initially working with a bank in Dodge City, KS, who serviced farming communities. After two years in Dodge City, he moved to Farm Management Commercial work in Hutchinson, KS, eventually serving as the President for Hutchinson National Bank and then Emprise Bank. Later his career took him to the Kansas City area where he was a partner at The Capital Corporation from 1997- present. An active member of the Kansas Bankers Association, traveling the midwest and building relationships throughout the industry, Dean was a respected leader and mentor with great dedication and passion for the industry for over 50 years. 

 

Outside of work, Dean was an avid golfer, loved to travel and regularly attend activities of his 6 grandchildren - from weddings to graduations, to sporting events, to musical performances. A proud member of Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, KS, since 1976, he was a regular on the golf course. His travels took him to Mexico, Europe, the Caribbean, and across the United States, including Alaska.  Dean was a member of Emanual Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, KS, and later became a member at Atonement Lutheran Church in Overland Park, KS.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Karl Johnson; mother, Helen Johnson; and daughter Ashley Johnson Pearson.

 

He is survived by his sister Delores Johnson Drew (Greg) of Blair, NE; two daughters, Wendy Johnson and Stephanie Nash Quinn; son-in-law, Doug Pearson (Ashley); six grandchildren, Bentley and Zoe Pearson, Preston Ramirez and Jagger McCarroll, Stella and Leo Nash; nieces and nephew Laura Drew Vinton, Carol Drew Bush, and David Drew. 

 

Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2022,10:30am at Atonement Lutheran Church, 9948 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS, 66212. A Celebration of Life will be held in Hutchinson, KS, in Spring of 2023. Details forthcoming at www.kccremation.com
