Virginia L. "Ginny" Campbell, Ph.D., Age: 78
Jul 18, 1944 - May 21, 2023

Virginia “Ginny” Campbell, 78, passed away on May 21, 2023 at The Village at Mission.  She was a long-time resident of Fairway, Kansas.

Ginny grew up in Prairie Village, Kansas, and graduated from Shawnee Mission East (Class of 1962).  She went on to Drury College in Springfield, Missouri, where she was a cheerleader and member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.  She received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and went on to receive her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology.  Before developing a private practice doing psychotherapy and consultation, she had a career path that included being a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines and working in administrative roles for business and political organizations in Texas and Louisiana.  She later moved back to the Shawnee Mission area and lived most of her adult life in Fairway, Kansas.

Ginny was very independent and had a variety of interests.  She liked researching things and figuring out how to do them.  At various times she enjoyed cooking and baking, landscaping her yard, photography, decorating her home and office, and travel.  For fun, she listened to audiobooks, watched British programs on PBS and discussed politics with friends.  She truly enjoyed being a psychologist and participated in various professional activities.

Words that might describe Ginny include creative, straightforward, intelligent, humorous, colorful and kind.  Perhaps most importantly she will be remembered for the compassion and concern she expressed toward her friends and clients.

She was preceded in death by her parents William Jerome Sears and Wilma Henderson Sears.

Memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 17, at 1:30 pm at Second Presbyterian Church, 315 E. 55th St. Kansas City, Mo. (Brookside area).  Ginny’s favorite color was red, so feel free to dress in joyful colors.

I remember Ginny from when we were in graduate school together. She had an outstanding laugh, and rarely was without a smile. I'm sure that she lifted the spirits of those that she worked with, and made the day better for many. she set her goals, and was persistent in meeting them. Rest in peace, Ginny.
