Dear family, I am so sorry about your loss of Jim. I knew him from building our house in Overland Park off of Lowell Ave and 115th. His house was not far away. He was such a nice person and easy to work with , always listening to our wants and needs in the house. I am still living in the same house 39 years now. I have raised my 3 kids here and now grandkids come to play here. My husband passed away a year ago, but I’m here to stay for as long as I can. I love this house and have often thought about Jim, wondering where he was now and what he was doing. I was very shocked to see his name in the paper this morning. Please know that I am thinking about your whole family and praying for peace in your lives. Sincerely, Martha Lieser

Sally, Jim (Sr.), Pam, Rob, and Stacy, I heard about Jim’s passing from my dad earlier today and I want to send my sincere condolences. As early as I can remember, if I was really lucky during a weekend or a holiday, I could go a few doors down and the whole Haas family would be there. Jim always had a huge, welcoming presence when I would ask if Rob could come outside and play. I was lucky to go on a few overnight sailing trips with the family. As a young kid, watching Jim work the sails, cranks, and ropes was an awesome sight. He seems so capable and I felt safe. And of course, on Sunday’s at Rolling Hills he was always greeting everyone with a big, warm smile. Fellow Sms Raider and Cedar Dr. alum, I’ll be thinking of him, and your families during this time. Sending my love to all. -Ryan

Dear Pam and family, Our hearts are heavy with the news of Jim’s passing. All of us here at the Lighthouse Cafe will sorely miss Jim’s positive attitude towards life and great sense of humor. I personally enjoyed hearing his tales of sailing to the Bahamas and his love of boats. We all smiled when seeing that Jim and family were on the dinner reservation book and promptly checked the stock of his favorite beer, Coors Light. The Haas family will remain in our thoughts, prayers and cherished memories. With love, Mike, Dan and the entire staff of Lighthouse Cafe
