Robert Fredrick Ficke, 96, passed on November 10, 2023, at St. Luke’s North Hospital with family by his side holding him near.
Bob was born January 12, 1927 to Fredrick and Irene (Shramek) Ficke in David City, Nebraska. During high school years, he played football, managed the David City pool, also serving as the life guard.
He was inducted into the U. S. Army following graduation from high school. After serving in the Army, he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, graduating with a degree in Biological Sciences. He was an avid Huskers football fan.
After moving to Kansas City, MO he worked for Hallmark, and then Western Auto Supply Company becoming the Manager of the Production Department. He retired after 34 years with Western Auto. After retirement, he started a small graphic arts business and enjoyed working an additional 10 years.
On May 29, 1976 he married Katherine (Kat) Williams James at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Mission, KS.
Bob is survived by his wife, Kat of 47 years; son, Terry Ficke (Lian); step-son, Steve James (Denise); along with grandchildren Taylor, Seth, Scott, Sara and Steven.
In 2009 he completed the necessary paperwork with KU Med Center to become a body donor. His cremains will be returned to the family after about one year and at that time there will be a Committal Ceremony with inurnment in the Memorial Garden at the Church of the Redeemer.
Celebration of Life will be November 25, 2023 at Church of the Redeemer, 7110 N. Highway 9, Kansas City, MO 64152; visitation at 10:00, Requiem Eucharist at 10:30.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions can be made to Church of the Redeemer-Memorial Garden Fund.
