Helen Leona Jordan

Helen Leona Jordan, 94, Leawood, KS, died Friday, January 19, 2024. She was born November 26, 1929 in Clyde, Kansas, the daughter of Katherine (Dumler) Herdt (3/09/1901-10/12/1934) and John Walter Herdt, Sr. (03/21/1895-11/09/1973). She had lived in Clyde, Valley Falls, Hillsboro, Topeka, Fairway, Leawood, and Overland Park, KS. She spent the last 7 years of her life at Villa Ventura Senior Living in south Kansas City, Missouri.



Helen graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1947 before attending Washburn University and Stormont-Vail School of Nursing. She spent almost 40 years as a registered nurse at places such as Stormont-Vail Hospital, KU Medical Center, and the Sealright manufacturing plant. Helen was a member of Village Presbyterian Church and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed baking, reading, sewing, and playing card games. In her later years, nothing brought her more joy than visits from her great-grandchildren. 

 

She was married to Harold Lloyd Jordan (02/11/1927-03/23/2012). She was also preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Tabea Steinert Herdt; daughter, Denise Gail Casey; grandson, Ryan Paul Jordan; sister Irene Hurst; and six brothers: Leroy, John, Ralph, Marvin, Leonard, and George.

 

Surviving are sons Douglas C. Jordan, of Phoenix, AZ, and Gary P. Jordan, of Overland Park; son-in-law John P. Casey (Priscilla); a brother, Robert Herdt, of Overland Park; a sister, Ruth Penner, of Newton; 2 grandchildren: Mindy Vaughn of Overland Park, and Kevin Zeller of Leawood; and 5 great-grandchildren: Meredith, Allie, and Peter Vaughn, and Bo and Rex Zeller. 



Services will be held at Hillcrest Covenant Church at 8801 Nall Ave, Prairie Village, KS 66207 on Tuesday, January 30th at 4:00. 



Private interment of cremains in Valley Falls Cemetery.

Cousin on Dumler side of family ,Rapid City ,South Dakota

Helen was such a dear lady. We visited her in heer home after Harold passed. She and I stayed in touch snd I always called a d sang to her on her birthday. She will be missed.
