Sharon D. Patterson, Age: 80
Jul 31, 1943 - Jun 26, 2024

Sharon D. Patterson, 80, died peacefully on June 26, 2024, after a fearless battle with brain cancer. She was stronger than cancer, but the Lord called to her, and she answered.

Sharon was born on July 31, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Gordon and Hester Bouyear. She was married to Ronald D. Patterson for 60 years and together they demonstrated a loving and beautiful relationship to their two children, Anthony (Rick) Patterson, and Sharon P. Churchman.

What Sharon lacked in education, she made up for in intellect, tenacity and hard work. She retired as office manager with Danka Industries after 35 years of service. The flexibility of her job meant she and Ron could winter in Pharr, Texas, long before her official retirement. As education was important to her, Sharon made sure that both her children obtained a college degree, for nothing else was acceptable.

Ron and Sharon enjoyed countless adventures together, spending many weekends at the Lake of the Ozarks, traveling to Street Rod meets in their ’46 Ford convertible, and RVing around the country.  Most often Sharon chose to travel South as she wasn’t fond of being cold, preferring sandy beaches and the sun.

Sharon’s warm and welcoming nature made it easy for her to make friends, and she possessed two extraordinary friends, Pat Casady and Mary Lou Reiter. She held her friends and family close, hosting holiday family gatherings for years because she felt it important to all be together.

Sharon’s interests included flea market and antique shopping, reading, quilting, sewing and playing cards with neighbors.  She loved to dance with Ron, attending weekly dances at Tropic Star, the park in Texas where they owned a home for many years. One of her favorite songs was “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ica Vutich, LeFay Bouyear, Ruth Enderle, Sybil Fox and Clarsia Holtcamp. She is survived by her husband Ron, her children Rick and Sharon (Mitch), her grandchildren Cameron, Spencer and Aubrey Churchman, her brother Gordon Dale Bouyear (Joyce) and many family and friends.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the University of Kansas Cancer Center, and the kind nurses and volunteers at NorthCare Hospice House. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to NorthCare Hospice House, 2800 Clay Edwards Drive, Kansas City, MO, 64116, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, www.lls.org.

Ron, in the middle of the night a couple of nights ago you and Sharon popped into this old brain and I wondered how things were going. If I were there, I would give you a "man" hug and let you know how sorry I am for your loss. your friend from our crazy years Gene Oltman

I first met Sharon and Ron over 40 years ago after being introduced to them by Pat Casady At one time we were all neighbors. We were young couples with children. They were always wonderful hosts and I remember a lot of fun times. But most of all I remember is what a devoted couple they were to each other. There was never any doubt how much they always loved each other. This love lasted a lifetime. Sharon was a strong woman that never gave up no matter what came her way. I was in KC 5 years ago and was so happy to have lunch with her and Pam Amberson. She was happy, hopeful, and feeling well. It was such a fun afternoon just catching up. Unfortunately, Sharon lost her courageous battle with Cancer, but she enjoyed a wonderful life and family. I am honored to have known her. So Rest in Peace Sweet Lady. You deserve it. My thoughts and Prayers go out to you Ron, Rick,Sharon Kay and family. God Bless.

Hi Ronnie So sorry to hear about Sharon. I tried to keep up with her health through Larry. Sharon was a beautiful person inside and out. I will be thinking of you, I know firsthand how it is when you lose someone you love.
