The son of William Carl Sr and Rachel (Denton) Fields, Mike was born in Kansas City and raised on the family farm in Buckner, Missouri. He attended St Mary’s Grade and High School where he met the love of his life, JoAnn (Mattingly). They were married for Sixty-Three wonderful years, blessed with three children whom he loved and adored. Mike built a long and respected career at Marion Laboratories where he served as Director of Computer Services, retiring in 1990. His hard work, dedication and expertise skills earned him the admiration and respect of his colleagues.
Mike had a zest for life and a desire to serve others. His compassionate nature allowed him to be a natural leader providing counsel and support to family and friends. He was a youth basketball coach, church music director, religious education teacher, men’s prayer group leader, parish council member, Catholic Diocesan board member, and the list goes on. Mike spent his free time in the outdoors, finding peace and joy in nature's embrace. He loved gardening, fishing, hiking, mushroom hunting, golfing, and flying remote-controlled airplanes.
Mike is survived by his wife JoAnn (Mattingly); his (3) children Tammy (Chris) Marks, Curt Fields and Shelly (Vern) Ault; his (6) grandchildren; Amber (Tony) Rogers, Amanda (Jeremy) Hall, Christopher (Ashton) Marks, Zachary (Madi) Ault, Abby Ault and Ashley Ault; (4) great grandchildren; Hayden, Carson, Charlotte, Madeline and (2) siblings Johnny Fred (Roberta) and Kathy Fields, along with many more extended family members and close friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Richard "Dick" Fields and William "Billy" Fields.
Mike will be missed deeply but never forgotten. May he Rest in peace.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be on Tuesday, July 9th at the Meadows Community Center in Lee’s Summit. Please stop by anytime between 4:30 – 6:30 to pay condolences or share a special memory with Mike’s family.
A Catholic Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, July 10th at 10am at Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church in Lee’s Summit, MO.
