Elwood Ellis, Age: 92
May 06, 1932 - Jul 29, 2024

Elwood Ellis, aged 92, was a farm boy born in Powersville, Missouri on May 6, 1932. He died in Independence, Missouri on July 29, 2024 following a brief illness. Prior to his death, he was a devoted caretaker for his wife, Mary Rose (George) Ellis.

Elwood and Mary first met as neighbors when Elwood’s family moved to the farm next door to Mary’s family. At the time, Mary was 12 and Elwood was 14. Their parents and school tried to keep them apart, but to no avail. They married in 1951. They had five children, adopted two grandchildren, and throughout their marriage, they took in countless children and young adults into their home loving them as if they were their own.

Elwood was always a hard worker. He worked for years for dairies in the Kansas City area. He retired at age 57, only to return to work at age 67 to work an additional six years for Car Quest. He valued hard work and took pride in always being on time and never called in sick. He had perfect attendance his senior year in high school.

Elwood loved the Lord and his faith served as a guiding principle throughout his life. He loved music and was always up for a spirited discussion about scripture. He also loved cars. In his spare time, he loved to repair cars for family and friends whenever they called for help. He was an avid KC Royals fan.

Elwood is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Ellis. Other survivors include his four children: Harold Ellis (Pam), Paulette Holst (Calvin), Rhonda Ellis (Jenny), and Lana Morris (Stan); his two adopted daughters Joy Ellis and Hope Romeo (Matt); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as countless others who have called him “Dad” or “Grandpa” over the years. He is also survived by two brothers, Sid and Doyle Ellis. He was preceded in death by son, Dennis Ellis who died in 1993.

Nephew. My mother Lenora was a sister to Uncle Elwood ,Ladera Ranch

I, like Uncle Elwood have always had an interest in cars. I remember growing up he would always seem to have great cars. Even in later life when talking with Elwood the subject of the latest cars would come up. My deepest condolences to the family. I know Uncle Elwood will be missed. Ellis D.
