Evelyn “Eva” Mae (Wolf) Angell , Age: 92

Evelyn “Eva” Mae (Wolf) Angell passed peacefully in her home on August 25, 2024 at age 92.

Eva was born on April 18, 1932, in Ashland, KS, to Benjamin and Maude (Overocker) Wolf.   In 1950, Eva graduated from Coldwater High School and, later that year, married her high school sweetheart Don Huck.  With Don, Eva gave birth to Rita Jill and Donald Keith II.  After Don’s death, Eva met William Kenneth Angell while attending Northwestern State College in Alva, OK.  A first date to see “White Christmas” lead to Eva and Ken’s marriage in 1955 and the birth of their daughters, Risa Jan and Rene’ Jo.

The family relocated to the Kansas City area in 1963 and planted deep roots.

In the ensuing years, Eva was a mother and mentor to more than her own four children.   Eva opened her home and heart to numerous young people, including her children’s friends, Ken’s students, foreign exchange students, extended family members, and anyone who needed a little help.  Eva provided a steady guiding hand to ensure her charges received the support and structure necessary to thrive.  While Eva may have technically committed grand theft auto at age 8, she helped others steer clear of such audacious criminal proclivities.

Eva worked as a medical office manager for 45 years, the last 15 with Dr. Joseph Barnthouse.  Eva was well-respected by her colleagues, clients, and, in a true testament to her professionalism, insurance companies.

Eva and Ken celebrated 64 “White Christmases” together until Ken’s passing in 2019.  Eva was a true matriarch and a rock to countless family and friends.  She will be sorely missed.

Eva is predeceased by her daughter, Jill VanderMolen. Eva’s daughter, Jan Westmoreland, passed peacefully in her home less than twelve hours after her mother’s passing.

Eva is survived by her children Donald Keith (Debbie) Huck Angell and Rene’ (Ed) Kroll, grandchildren Tandi (Mark) Hechler, Shannon (Brian) Smith, Drew Angell (Bety Estrella), Thad (Tessa) Nugent, Rachael Love (Ryan Coleman), Kalindi (Brandon) Novelli, Jake VanderMolen, and great-grandchildren Bekah and Matti Toone, Judah Fey, Olivia and Noah Smith, Thaddeus and Tulliah Nugent, and Veda Mae Novelli, as well as a beloved nephew who cared for her with his generosity, a beloved nephew who brought her cut up watermelon, and many other nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A memorial celebration will be held at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO, on Friday August 30th.  Visitation will be at 10:00AM followed by a memorial service at 11:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Heart of America Chapter (alz.org) or KC Hospice (kchospice.org)
