Frank Hanna Kirk

Frank Hanna Kirk, born November 16, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024, at the age of 81. He was the son of James P. Kirk and Elizabeth Hanna Kirk and the middle of three boys.

 

Frank was a devoted husband of 54 years to his wife Nancy and a loving father to Natalie Welch (J.C.) and Andrew Kirk. He was also a proud grandfather to Aurora Kirk. He is survived by his brother Mike (Julie), his sister-in-law Judy, as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Phil Kirk.

 

A graduate of Southwest High School in 1960, Frank went on to attend the University of Kansas, where he earned his undergraduate degree in 1964. While at KU, he lettered in golf and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity which he continued to support and serve for 50 years. He went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from KU in 1967.

 

Frank was a financial advisor for over 50 years, retiring from Merrill Lynch at the end of 2023. For the last 15 years of his career, he was a partner with his daughter, Natalie Welch.

 

Frank's life was marked by a deep commitment to his community. He served on numerous boards and organizations, including YMCA of Greater Kansas City, Tom Watson Supporting Foundation, Kansas Phi Delta Theta, United Way of Kansas City, Johnson County Community College, Kansas City Tomorrow, Johnson County Community Foundation, Folds of Honor Kansas City, First Tee of Greater Kansas City, Kansas Golf Association, Kansas City Golf Association, and the Western Golf Association.

 

A long-time active member and board member of Wolf Creek Golf Club, Mission Hills Country Club, and La Quinta Country Club, Frank was passionate about the game of golf. He was inducted into the Kansas Golf Hall of Fame, Kansas City Golf Hall of Fame and continued to be actively involved in the sport. He got his 13th hole-in-one in January 2023. One of his recent endeavors was supporting Chris Harris’s vision of building a golf course at Harris Park in Kansas City’s Ivanhoe neighborhood, a project close to his heart.

 

Frank's warmth, integrity, and dedication to family and community will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of service and generosity will continue to inspire those he touched.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00-6:00 pm, Wednesday, October 30. Before COVID, I would spend lots of time at the "Y". I started hitting the sauna on a regular basis and Frank would be there frequently. Love talking sports, golf or whatever with him. Again, didn't know him well but he was always friendly and engaging. My condolences. Ira Taylor
