Susan Genene Jones Hunt, 70, passed away peacefully in her home on October 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family after a brave 10-month battle with aggressive breast cancer.
Born on December 19, 1953, in Clarinda, Iowa, Susan was the daughter of Ken B. Jones and Jeanne Kathryn Espey Jones. She graduated from Maryville High School and went on to earn both a master’s degree and an educational specialist degree from Northwest Missouri State University. Susan dedicated 32 years of her life to teaching in the Park Hill School District, where she was cherished by students and colleagues alike until her retirement in 2008.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, James Hunt; her parents, Ken and Kathryn Jones; and her brother, Ned Jones. She is survived by her son, Austin Hunt and his wife Courtney; her daughter Lauren Eikel and her husband Joseph; her sister, Sarah Jones Sporrer and her husband David; and her five beloved grandchildren: William, Caroline, and Eleanor Hunt and Adeline and Kathryn Eikel.
Known for her caring and nurturing spirit, Susan touched countless lives. She had a passion for cooking, hosting weekly family gatherings with her signature Sunday night dinners, which were a true expression of her love. Susan cherished time spent with her family in Branson, Missouri, and held a special place in her heart for Hawaii, where she honeymooned with James and returned many times with her children and grandchildren.
Susan delighted in planting tropical flowers by her pool each summer, enjoying the sun and her Hawaiian-inspired oasis. Having lived in Barry Harbor for 40 years, Susan was a fixture in the neighborhood, always offering a friendly wave.
Susan’s legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
