Frances Marie Hines, 97, passed away on November 14, 2024 at Maggie’s Place, Overland Park, Kansas. Funeral Service will be on December 2nd at 10am at the Mausoleum Chapel at Resurrection Cemetery, 8300 Quivira Road, Lenexa, KS 66215.
Fran was born September 14, 1927 to Alex and Mary (Rozic) Sockovich. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Michael, Joseph and George, four sisters, Anna Malnar, Kathryn Deitchman, Diana Vale, and Margaret Sockovich, her first husband, Clarence Yarmek, second husband, Stuart D. Hines, as well as other relatives Carolyn (Hines) Strayer and Robert “Bob” Hines. She is survived by her niece Madeline Herman and relatives by marriage; Jay B. Strayer (Kay), Stuart Hines (Linda), Patricia Hines, grandchildren; John Strayer (Angela), Rebecca Malone (Matt), Margaret Godderz (Adam), Brian Hines (Genelle), Mark Strayer, Kylie Frederick (Owen), and Chelsea Kearns as well as numerous great grandchildren and several great nephews.
Fran grew up in Kansas City, Kansas where she attended and graduated from Wyandotte High School. After High School, Fran married her first husband, Clarence. Fran began working for Travelers Insurance Company where she was a dedicated employee for decades. She was a loving caretaker to Clarence through a long illness until he passed in 1973.
It was when Fran married her second husband, Stuart, in 1974, that she was “adopted” into a loving and growing extended family. This family grew over the years to include aunts, uncles, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As this “family by marriage” grew, Fran participated in many joyous holiday celebrations, countless Thanksgiving dinners, and many major milestones. She was heartbroken when she lost her second husband, Stuart, in 2000, but continued to live independently. After Stuart’s death she became the caretaker of her elderly sisters Diane and Margie until their passing. She remained in her Overland Park home on 103rd Terrace until she was 94 years old.
Fran will be remembered for her spunky, feisty, honest spirit. As she would always say, “she was one hell of a gal”. A loving and devoted wife, caretaker, grandmother, and a longtime faithful member of Cure of Ars Catholic Church.
