William “Bill” Bade, Age: 91

William “Bill” Bade, 91, of Overland Park, KS, and formerly a longtime resident of Ridgefield Park, NJ, for 50 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

Bill was the devoted husband of 64 years to his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Bade, who predeceased him. He was the proud and loving father of William (Denise) of Overland Park, KS, and Michael (Marybeth) of Berkeley Heights, NJ. Known as “Papa” to his cherished grandchildren — Stephanie, Austin, Isabella, Connor, Kyle, and Sophia — Bill was deeply devoted to his family. He was also the dear brother of Charles Bade and Joseph Bade, both of whom predeceased him.

Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, Bill was the son of Charles and Inez Bade. He attended St. Michael’s High School on a track scholarship and later enrolled at Jersey City Junior College, where he excelled in basketball and baseball. After his studies, Bill proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Japan for two years. Though his initial dream was to become a pilot, he pivoted to a career as a payroll and finance disbursing officer. After his discharge, he served an additional four years in the Air Force Reserve.

Upon returning to civilian life, Bill earned his bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He went on to enjoy a meaningful and rewarding career with the Social Security Administration, dedicating 35 years to helping others. As a field representative and supervisor, Bill took great pride in advocating for people, often going above and beyond to secure benefits for those in need. Helping others wasn’t just a job for Bill — it was his calling.

Bill’s life was marked by love and devotion. He met his future wife, Betty, in Turin, Italy, while visiting his cousin. It was love at first sight for both of them. After a year of exchanging letters across continents, Betty sailed to New York to begin her life with Bill. They were engaged shortly after her arrival and married on September 28, 1963, less than a year later.

A man of great integrity and family values, Bill often spoke fondly of his childhood, sharing stories about early cars, summer days at the family’s beach house, and his time working in a penny arcade. His parents instilled in him the importance of hard work, generosity, and selflessness — qualities that became the foundation of his life.

Bill shared countless joyful moments with his family, whether playing sports with his sons, helping with school projects, or creating unforgettable vacations at the Jersey Shore. He was also an avid New York Giants fan and a longtime season ticket holder, treasuring the time spent at games with his family and friends.

Above all, Bill was a man of unwavering kindness, generosity, and humility. He always put others before himself, giving freely and never expecting anything in return. He found his greatest joy in the happiness and well-being of his family, and his legacy of love will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Bill’s memory will live on in every act of kindness and selflessness we carry out in his honor. In lieu of flowers, please consider extending an act of kindness to someone in need.
