Elizabeth "Jane" Kern Sixbey
Jun 09, 1950 - Dec 07, 2024

Elizabeth "Jane" Kern Sixbey, born June 9, 1950, danced into the world with a joyful spirit and left us peacefully on December 7, 2024. Her laugh was legendary: loud, contagious, and guaranteed to make you forget your troubles, even if just for a moment. Her heart was equally unforgettable, endlessly caring, and capable of becoming best friends with anyone who crossed her path.

Jane was many things: a dedicated Kansas City Chiefs and KU men’s basketball fan, a history buff, a runner, an avid gardener, and a lover of road trips to presidents' homes. She also had the most extensive knowledge of classic movies of anyone around, always ready with a quote or trivia fact to share. But above all, she was the beating heart of her family. She will forever be remembered as the loving mother of her three children: Jason Kent, Julie Campbell (deceased), and Rosalind Sixbey, married to Colin Curoe. Jane shared a unique and cherished bond with Kristen Prier, the devoted mother of her granddaughters, Karley (20), Claire (17), and Grace (16), who lit up her world.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dorothy Kern, née Krobst, and her siblings, Kay (Tom) Chapman, David Kern, and George Kern. She is survived by her oldest brother, Phil (Jeanie) Kern. She carried their shared love and memories with her always.

For nearly 13 years, Jane battled multiple myeloma with the grace, grit, and gratitude that defined her life. She consistently defied every prognosis, using her extended time to ensure those around her knew how much they were loved. Her family was her pride and joy, and she never missed an opportunity to remind them of their worth.

Jane would want us all to live with more of her spirit: to laugh louder, to cheer harder, and to never leave love unspoken. In her honor, let’s celebrate her life by telling someone today just how much they mean to us.

She is, and always will be, forever missed.

Friend ,West Des Moines ,Iowa

Jane and I first met when she was a patient at the dental office where I worked for 12 years. After I left, we remained friends and were running buddies for a couple of years until she became ill. I was with her when she got diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and accompanied her to several Dr’s visits and chemo treatments in Iowa City. We had a lot in common and loved discussing our childhoods, our very liberal politics and our love of movies. Jane was the kindest, funniest and most loving friend over the span of 25 years. I will never forget her and will always admire her strength and love for her family and for life in general. She was and will remain an iinspiration to me always. Love you Lady Jane. ❤️

Rosiland and Kristen. What a beautiful obituary. You described my dear, sweet friend to a T. We clicked immediately when we met in Des Moines. She was always thinking of others. I miss her terribly already. I'm glad she is free and no longer suffering.

I met your mom when you all lived in Wyoming. We hit it off at Taco John's and were friends ever since. Her obituary nails it. Some of my best memories in my life revolve around Jane laughing and having fun, as well as he serious side with deep discussions. Jane was so very multifaceted. I loved her too the moon and back.

Janie was a childhood friend of mine from school. She could make your worst day or most embarrassing moment the funniest thing that happened to me. She was sunshine on a cloudy day. I am saddened that she was called away from humanity but joyful for her freedom and relief. Thank you Janie.

Lifelong friend ,Sherman ,Texas

I met Jane when I was in 1st grade and she has been my best friend ever since. We were very different, I liked dolls and she liked balls. We argued, we laughed, we cried, we got married, we had our children, we mourned the loss of our parents and siblings but we always had each other. We named our daughters after each other and were there for each other in good times and bad. We always talked about the fact that we had an unbelievable friendship which lasted over 65 years. Jane had the unique ability to make people feel good. Her smile was contagious and her concern for others was insurmountable. I will miss her every day and she will live in my heart forever.
