Steve Seifert, Age: 72

It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Dr. Stephen Paul Seifert, December 28, 2024, at the age of 72. Dr. Seifert was born in Quincy, IL, on December 5, 1952, son of Paul Arthur and Doris Irene Seifert. He was a beloved husband, father, uncle, papa, brother, and friend, leaving a legacy of wisdom, gentility, love, and light that will forever be cherished by his family and all who knew him.

 

He was an anesthesiologist for over 20 years in the Tulsa, OK area. In 2002, he took a position with Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin, MN. He retired in 2017 and moved to Kansas City, MO, to be near his family. He was a skilled and compassionate anesthesiologist, spending decades helping patients with the same gentleness and dedication that defined every aspect of his life.

 

Steve found joy in the simple pleasures of life—music, gardening, bird watching, cooking, fast cars, camping, tracking nature, and caring for his dogs. One of his pleasures in life was taking pride and joy in being a papa. He was a mentor to his family, sharing his wisdom, discussing history, and current topics he researched for the day.

 

Steve’s kindness, humor, and ability to listen will be deeply missed. His "Gentle Ben" nature and loving presence will never be forgotten, as his legacy of love and care will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Survived by wife Bonnie, son Stephen Paul Jr. and wife Maricruz Seifert, daughter Ashlee and husband Shane Jenks, as well as his grandchildren Gavin, Tanner, Jaydon, and McKoy, daughter Holly Seifert, son Brion and wife Miji Seifert, sister Donna Seifert Iams and brother-in-law Zip Iams, sister Nellie Seifert Filliger, sister Sandy Seifert Powell. Preceded in death by his parents Paul and Doris Seifert, and sister Susan Lynn Seifert.

Dear Seifert family It’s with great sadness to hear of Steve’s passing. I first met Steve when he lived on Koch’s Lane two houses away. After he moved to Old Orchard Rd. I lost touch with him. We reunited in 1973 and spent a lot of time together over the next three years. One night Steve, Mike Denum and I were on Hog Back island which is a sand bar in the middle of the Mississippi River, we had a campfire and drinking some beer when we realized the boat was floating away and was fifty foot off shore. This was in early May and the current was swift and the water was cold and I was afraid to swim after it but Steve with all his swimming experience drove in and saved the boat. Steve was a kind and gentle soul. I know you will miss him but always cherish the memories. Love Dick McNay

Steve and I were best friends from birth. My dad was his dad’s best man at their wedding. Steve and I spent many hours swimming at Sheridan as kids. In high school we loved cars. He had an awesome 1928 ford street rod along with an AMX javelin, challenger, Camaro and 55 Chevy. We had built a club house down by the creek where we hung out during our early years in jr high. He called me one time to come out and watch his dog have puppies in his sisters room. After his mother passed his dad traveled the country in his mobile home. We were building a new house and had just sold ours so Paul let us live in the family home for 8 months until ours got finished. It was like my second home anyway. When we moved out Paul gave us his yellow cat which stayed with us for 10+ years. I hadn’t seen Steve since his dad’s funeral but will always remember the good times we had. We use to call him “gentle Ben “. He was a great guy
