Dennis James Andrews, Age: 70
May 30, 1954 - Jan 27, 2025

Dennis James Andrews, age 70, passed away on January 27, 2025, in Kansas City, MO. Born on May 30, 1954, Dennis was a stern, reserved, patient, calm, and caring man. He never wanted to be a burden on people but was always generous when it came to helping others.

Dennis had piercing blue eyes and a brilliant smile. He overcame numerous difficulties in his life but always made time and place for others. He rarely missed his granddaughters’ performances, always had his camera at the ready, and never turned away a stray animal.

Dennis was not a braggart, nor very loquacious, but when he did speak, it had meaning and purpose. He was a great deliberator and, while he took some time to make up his mind, he knew it was right. The absence of his quiet demeanor has left a loud silence. He will be forever missed.

He dedicated over three decades as a production and transportation manager for animal feed at the Co-op, Farmland, Pro-Pet and Cargill in the Muncie area of Kansas City, KS.

Dennis was an alumnus of Southern High School in Wymore, NE, and later attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry. While there, he developed his lifelong love for all things Cornhuskers. Beyond his professional life, he was passionate about photography, gardening, bicycling, camping, canoeing, fishing and cherished spending time with his family, creating lasting memories.

He is survived by his brother, Bruce Andrews; sister-in-laws, Melinda Andrews and Geneie Andrews; former wife of 18 years, Melinda (Mindy) Barclay nee Carpenter; his partner, Kathy Slimmer; sons, Ben Nies, James Andrews, and Nathan Cushenbery-Andrews; daughter-in-laws, Sara Cushenbery-Andrews and Megan Baker; grandchildren, McKenzie, Vivian, Sofia, Noah, Stella, Sylvia, and Lydia; three nephews and four nieces. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, James (Jim) F. and Beverly (Bev) L. Andrews, and his brother, Kim Andrews.

A celebration of life will be planned for early May in Kansas City, KS, with a graveside internment to follow at Blue Springs Cemetery in Blue Springs, NE, in late May. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude's Hospital or the Arbor Day Society in memory of Dennis.

Cousin ,Lincoln ,Nebraska

Dennis and I were very close, more like siblings in our young years. We were born 30 days apart. Our mom's were sisters and used to put us in the crib together. I always looked forward to spending time each summer in Wymore and having Dennis come spend time in Lincoln with us. I was heartbroken when I turned 14 and my dad said I couldn't spend time in Wymore with those boys anymore. I will miss your sweet smile, your quiet laugh and your warm hugs. I know that because of what our lord Jesus did for us, I will see you again!

I remember him always staying calm and forgiving the mistakes we made growing up. He made sure no one was left out or felt left out of anything when he was around. He raised two awesome sons that he was proud of
