Mabel "Maimie" McAtee, Age: 107
Feb 01, 1918 - Feb 12, 2025
Mabel "Maimie" McAtee, née Marshall, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, at the remarkable age of 107.

Born on February 1, 1918, in Cardiff, South Wales, Maimie lived a life defined by compassion, dedication, and love. During World War II, she played a vital role in supporting the UK war effort while working as a State Registered Nurse (SRN) at Gloucester Royal Infirmary. Her deep empathy for those in pain guided her throughout her career, and after the war, she continued her calling as a Registered Nurse (RN) at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Nursing was not just a profession for Maimie—it was a lifelong passion through which she sought to bring comfort and care to those in need.

One of Maimie’s greatest joys was meeting her beloved husband, Donovan, during the war. Their love story led her to move to the United States, where she embraced her new life as his wife and the devoted mother of their three sons. She cherished family above all else and found immense happiness in their love and companionship.

Beyond her professional life and family, Maimie was an active member of several organizations that reflected her heritage and interests. She participated in the Daughters of the British Empire and the Kansas City St. Andrew Scottish Society and gave back to her community as a volunteer at the Johnson County Public Library. She also delighted in attending tea dances—an expression of her enduring joy for music and movement.

Maimie is survived by her sons Robert (Barbara), Ian (Heather), and Douglas; niece Linda (Mervyn); nephew Robert (Helen); and many dear friends who were touched by her kindness and warmth. She was predeceased by her husband Donovan and brother William (Joan).

She wished to be remembered as a kind and loving person who valued goodwill and cherished the love of family and friends. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Maimie’s legacy are encouraged to sing a song, dance with joy, take time to smell the flowers—but most importantly, be kind to one another.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Cross Creek of Lee’s Summit and Ascend Hospice for their compassionate care.

Though the song may be over, the music continues to linger—just as Maimie’s spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
