Karen E. Wardle, Age: 74

Karen Evonne Wardle, age 74, passed away peacefully in her sleep March 8, 2025 in Independence, MO, after being diagnosed with kidney cancer in August of 2024.  

 

Karen was born February 15, 1951 in Independence, MO, to Don and Inez Steede Rich.  She married Allan James Wardle on October 25, 1980.  Karen was an amazing mother and grandmother and had a knack for forming and keeping lifelong friends.  Her young adult life was centered around church and Zion’s league activities.  Upon marriage, Karen moved to Salt Lake City, UT, with her husband and was involved in both the square dance and church communities. She eventually moved back to Independence, MO, after Allan’s passing.  She worked for the Little Blue Valley Sewer District for nearly 23 years as an accountant, health benefits specialist, and director of finance before retiring in 2017.  Karen will be remembered for her passion for reading, her keen mind, her faithfulness, and her deep love of family and friends.  

 

Karen is survived by her son, Strider; daughter, Heather; grandchildren, Thoryn, Ranger, Graylon, and Natalie; sister, Janet; brother, Larry; many dear relatives, and a wonderful circle of friends.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Allan; mother, Inez; father, Don, and sister, Donna.  

 

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 22nd, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Summit Grove Community of Christ Church, 411 S Lee’s Summit Rd, where family and friends can join together to remember Karen.  Remote viewing will be available via Facebook.  In lieu of flowers the family wishes contributions be made to Summit Grove Community of Christ youth activities and scholarships.

Karen was not only my boss but a true friend. She stood up for me even when it wasn't necessarily to her advantage. I will always be thankful for her and her friendship.
