Alice Virginia Peete Rickel

Daughter of Dr. Don Carlos and Alice Peete, Virginia studied Occupational Therapy at the University of Kansas and worked at Children’s Mercy Hospital.  Virginia was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday School as a young woman, and later became a member of the Altar Guild and Friday Guild.

 

Virginia enjoyed an adventurous family life with her husband Edgar J. Rickel and their three daughters. In addition to her dedication to her family, Virginia coordinated numerous neighborhood and club gatherings, graciously welcoming all guests. She was a member of Daughters of the American Colonists, and The Round Robin Study Club (1980 – 2015). A gentle soul fascinated with birds, butterflies, and flowers; Virginia served as President of the East Central District Garden Club. In 2007, she had been member of the Kansas Associated Garden Clubs for half a century.

 

Virginia is survived by her three daughters, Janet Rickel, Elizabeth Greenwood, and Mary Pelletier as well as her son-in-law Marc Pelletier. Virginia’s family also includes her grand-daughter Alice (Greenwood) Angulo, (Aaron) and great-grandson Armando Angulo II; as well as her younger sister, Sammy Scott, her nephews, Jim, Tom and Ned Scott, Douglas Peete and a niece, Nanette (Peete) Wooten. She is pre-deceased by her husband Edgar, brother (Don Peete Jr.) and sister-in-law (Jean Peete).

 

A memorial service will be held 11am, Saturday, April 5th at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 11 E. 40th Street, KCMO 64111. The service will be followed by a celebration of life reception at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
