Gregory (Deke) Eugene Taylor, Age: 69

It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of Gregory (Deke) Eugene Taylor, our Pappy. He passed away August 5th 2025 peacefully, in Grandview, Missouri at the age of 69.

He was born in Morton, Texas to Jack Eugene Taylor and Dolores Dale Wages Taylor on July 25th 1956.

From a young age, he was always involved in the game—whether he was playing himself, cheering on his kids, or watching the WTAMU Buffaloes and professional teams on TV. Sports were more than a hobby; they were a lifelong passion.

He also treasured time with his grandkids—whether it was playing ball in the backyard or joining in Barbie adventures in the living room. His joy came from simply being present and sharing those special moments.

Greg was known for always having his black felt hat with him. Whether he was out and about or settling in for a nap, that hat was never far from reach—often pulled down over his face for a quick rest. The only people allowed to touch it were his grandkids—because in his eyes, they could do no wrong.

Greg lived his life as a faithful Christian and gently encouraged his family to do the same. His quiet strength and unwavering faith were a guiding light to those who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish Greg’s memory are his wife of 49 years Sheryl Lea Woods Taylor, kids: Brock (Cassie) Taylor of Lubbock TX, Matt (Amy) Taylor of Claude TX, Shara (Basil) Sherman of Overland Park KS.  Grandkids: Samantha Jaramillo, Tristan Taylor and Geronimo, Sue Taylor, Charlee Taylor, Caemlyn Taylor, Basil Sherman III, Hollis Taylor, Declan Sherman and great granddaughter Lilly Kennedy.  Sisters Bec (Wallace) Inge, Jeniene (Terry) King, Kristy (Kerry) Weinheimer, and Melissa (Michael) Jones.  Also several special nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father Jack Taylor, his mother Dolores Wages Taylor, and his childhood “partner in crime” cousin Shelton Stevens.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Texas at a later time.
