Linda J. Cookson, Age: 80

Linda J. Cookson, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s hospice house in Kansas City on July 24, 2025.  She was 80 years old. 

 
Linda was accompanied by her two natural born children, Michael and Katie.

Originally from Campbell, California, Linda was one of six children, daughter of Ward and Harriet Edsinger.

As a young adult, she attended college courses to become a medical assistant and started work at Kaiser Permanente. It is there where she was introduced to her first husband, Dr. F. Anthony Thomas.  They had two children together, Michael and Katie Thomas. 
 
She was a devoted mother, and became a second Mom to many of her children’s friends. She was noted for her beauty and charm, lovely and creative hospitality, her dedication to the medical field and bringing life and fun to others around her no matter the setting or circumstance. 
 
Her hobbies included gardening, decorating, sewing, and teaching aerobics.

In 1992 she married again to Dr. Grant T. Cookson. Through this union, she gained two more children by marriage, Matt and Jennifer. She and her husband were active members of the Episcopalian Church Of The Redeemer where she started the “soil mates” gardening club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dr. Grant T. Cookson, and her brothers, Jeff and Richard Edsinger.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brother Roger and sisters, Karla and Nancy, her four children, Michael, Katie, Matt, and Jennifer, her two grandchildren, Samuel and Sarah, and her great goddaughter, Lucy.
 
Her funeral will be held at: 
The Episcopal Church Of The Redeemer, 7110 N MO-9 Kansas City, MO 64152, Saturday, August 16th. 
9:30 AM Visitation. 
10:30 AM Requiem Mass and burial. Followed by an open reception at the church. Friends and family are encouraged to share their favorite Linda memories. 
 
In lieu of flowers or plants, she has requested donations for the Church Of The Redeemer’s landscaping fund.
