Don Howard Ehling

September 14, 1946-August 23, 2025

Don Howard Ehling, born September 14, 1946, in Winfield, Kansas, was the beloved son of Earl and Alice Ehling. He passed away on August 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family, friends, and his faith. During his illness, he received outstanding pastoral and medical care, developing close and meaningful relationships with his care team in Kansas City, who provided consistent support with compassion and kindness.

In his youth, Don enjoyed playing numerous rounds of golf and achieved many accomplishments in the sport, including three hole-in-ones. After graduating from Winfield High School in 1964, he continued his education at Kansas State University and Southwestern College, earning a degree in economics. In his later years, he developed a strong bond with his dogs and granddog. He enjoyed riding motorcycles on open roads to Sturgis and elsewhere for many years. In addition to enjoying many KU basketball games… Rock Chalk Jayhawk.

Don’s happiest moments involved his children and the things they did together. Traveling to Colorado for skiing and exploring, California for adventuring, Chicago for its museums, the Board of Trade, and skyscrapers, or Fort Worth for PGA golf, youth sporting events, golfing at Winfield Country Club, or simply for daily communications.

For many years, he was the owner of Professional Investment Services, Inc., a small business in Winfield. He often welcomed daily drop-in visitors and friends to discuss the stock and bond markets. He enjoyed his career, which allowed him to meet and form meaningful friendships across the country.

Don was an active member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Wichita, where he could often be found volunteering for landscaping, managing audiovisual equipment, or assisting with the communion service. He took pride in his faith and his church family. His dear friends, Terry and Vickie, were deeply intertwined in his spiritual journey, each enriching the other's faith. Don’s faith was also evident in the devoted care he provided to his beloved friend, Rose Mary.

Don’s legacy lives on through his family, including his sons, Bryan Ehling of Winfield and Brent Ehling (Melissa) of Prairie Village, Kansas. They find comfort in knowing that he will be watching over them.

In place of flowers, donations may be made to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, Missouri 64145, or St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 2555 N Hyacinth, Wichita, Kansas 67204.

Sister in Christ and very close friend. ,Wichits ,Kansas

Because I know where Don is, and that he is no longer under the grasp of death, I can only rejoice for having known him since July, 2013. We shared many great times together, especially our worship time at St. Andrews Lutheran Church. We had a date day every Thursday. We enjoyed the Walnut Valley Festival together, as well as get togethers with our church family. I will miss Don and his gentle spirit and know he will be waiting to welcome me home when my own day of departure occurs. I am thankful for all the memories we made. May he rest in peace.
