Wanda Ruth Perkins of Kansas City, MO passed away on March 8, 2026.
Wanda was born on July 24, 1936, at Jefferson Island, Montana to Frank Johnstone and Maxine Johnstone (nee Paul). She was also the great-great granddaughter of Chief Mistawasis of the Mistawasis Cree nation Saskatchewan, Canada.
Wanda was a graduate of William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri class of 1954. After high school, she earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Missouri State, a bachelor of arts in business education from Missouri Western and a masters of arts in adult and continuing education from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.
Wanda worked as an accountant with Clarkson Construction and the Kansas City airport. She also owned Petitt Tax Service in Northeast Kansas City. The majority of her career was teaching computer skills at a community college in Sacramento, California and with the Arlington school district in Virginia. She was also the president of the Arlington Teachers Union.
Wanda was a member of the Fairview Christian Church. She enjoyed lunches at Silver Center in Liberty, MO, bingo in North Kansas City and going to the Gladstone Community Center. She was also a president of the American Association of University Women. She was always willing to volunteer for whatever the situation might be. She loved traveling and exploring different cultures from many countries. Cruises were her favorite.
She was preceded in death by her husband Homer H. Perkins, father Frank Johnstone and mother Maxine Johnstone. She is survived by her sons Terry Axsom, of Roeland Park, Kansas, and Ricky Axsom, of Kearney, Missouri, and her beloved schnauzers, Oliver and Bailey.
