Dirk Lloyd Ewy, Prairie Village, Kansas, died April 9, 2026, off to begin his next adventure.
Dirk was born May 11, 1970, in Michigan City, Indiana to Stan and Elaine Ewy, joining siblings Diana, Kristi and Eric as their new baby brother. He grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan in Long Beach, Indiana.
Moving to Kansas City in 1984, Dirk quickly developed his passion for the Royals & the Chiefs and remained a loyal fan forever.
Dirk's profession was as a talented, skilled Chief Engineer for Marriott properties in Kansas City for nearly 25 years. His business acumen, along with engineering abilities, made him an asset. Dirk mentored many employees during his career and always enjoyed reconnecting with them at conferences & classes throughout the years.
Dirk was known for his humorous storytelling and entertaining. One was always drawn to Dirk with his winning combination of intelligence, quick wit, and his fine art of conversation.
Besides his ability to bring a laugh or smile, family and friends will truly miss his deeply caring, loving, and tender-hearted nature. Once his friend, you were a forever friend.
But, we would be remiss if we failed to mention his sly, sarcastic silliness. Dirk's social media followers looked forward to his posts. He brightened their days with the most random of messages that produced laughter to see them through to the next message.
His nephew, Chris, pointed to Dirk's hilarious, self-proclaimed accomplishment as "Time Magazine's Man of the Year 2006" Chris shared Dirk was a 47 time fantasy baseball champion, the Creator of the Mosquito Defense, the Co-creator of Post Season Royals Chants, R.O.Y. and a quick witted, easy to talk to human being, whom this co-creator of the chants will continue on with his legacy.
One of his favorite pleasures was cooking and enjoying gourmet food. He was a "foodie" before it was cool, introducing family and friends to delicious, unique restaurants in Kansas City. However, we believe the conversations with him, while dining, were the real gift.
In October of 2005, Dirk proudly accepted the honor of becoming his niece, Jillian Ewy’s, Godfather. Together, they developed a special relationship through laughter, mentorship, and love.
Dirk was a music aficionado, curious about all things religious & spiritual, a history buff and a lifelong learner. He was, indeed, our Leader of the Pack.
Dirk was welcomed into heaven by his Dad, Stan, and his Mom, Elaine, who died just eight months earlier. Family finds comfort imagining our Mom greeting him with, "Hi Babe!" and our Dad exclaiming, "Well, Hello Fella!"
He was also preceded in death by his Grandparents Lloyd and Minnie (Prescott) Arnote & Carl and Helen (Kunkler) Ewy, and his Uncle Bud (Carole) Ewy.
Dirk is survived by his loving siblings, Diana (Doug) Ewy Sharp, Prairie Village, Kansas, Kristi (Pat) Shallenberger, Lebanon, Indiana, and Eric Ewy, Michigan City, Indiana. Members of his Fan Club are his nephews and nieces: Christopher (Jess) Lamberson, Rebecca (Josh) Thompson, Patrick and Erin Shallenberger, & Evan and Jillian Ewy. Dirk loved spending time with his one-year-old great-nephew, Liam Thompson.
He also leaves behind his aunt, Gail Moore, & cousins Brian Moore, Julee Bruno, Mark (Rusty) Ewy, and his brother-in-law, Jim Lamberson.
His family has decided to take a page out of his own play book and proclaim another accomplishment. A Lifetime Achievement Award for the love and joy he so generously gave to so many. We can't think of a greater legacy one can leave behind.
We can only begin to imagine how much the angels were waiting for your arrival. A Celebration of Dirk is being planned for this summer.
Gone much too soon, Dirkster. As you were known to say, Rest Well. This isn't Goodbye, Brother. It's See You Later.
We Love You.
