James Herbert Vaughn, 93, of Emporia, Kansas and Prairie Village, Kansas, passed away Saturday June 6, 2026, in Prairie Village.
Jim was born March 16, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Lyle and Aline (Clifton) Vaughn. He graduated from East High School in Kansas City, Missouri.
After graduation, Jim joined the United States Navy serving as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War.
After returning to the states, Jim joined the Prairie Village Police Department. He later worked for his father-in-law who owned Herman & Walker Oil Co. He also worked for Coldwell Banker Real Estate, and then started his own home repair and remodeling business, U.S. Repair.
Jim married Coral June Herman on July 30, 1955 in Kansas City, Missouri. The Vaughn’s lived in Prairie Village and Overland Park for nearly 40 years before moving to Emporia. They were married 68 Years.
Together the Vaughn’s traveled the southwest and spent many winters in Lake Havasu City and Green Valley, Arizona.
Jim is survived by his daughters Kim Brooks and husband Don of Prairie Village, and Kelly Mayer and husband Charlie of Emporia, eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild, and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister.
Services will be held Friday, June 26, 11:00 am, at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
