Virgina Ann Phillips (lovingly known as Ginger), age 87, passed away July 8, 2026 in Overland Park, Kansas. Born on March 24, 1939 in Flandreau, South Dakota to Marie and Virgil Winge, Ginger grew up in Moberly, Missouri. She completed her X-Ray technician certification in December, 1959 and spent many years working for Dickson-Diveley on the Plaza before she and her dear friend Judy created their own business adventure. On May 6, 1962, she married Phil, the love of her life. Together they shared nearly 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2014.
Ginger left this life with “no regrets.” She embraced each day with energy and joy, surrounding herself with wonderful people and staying active in the communities she loved. She played in tennis and golf leagues, cherished her sorority girls, beloved her “Betty Boop” high school crew, and dearly loved all of her special friends. In recent years Ginger looked forward to Saturday night Bingo and countless hours of puzzle‑making. Ginger loved to bake and serve others; like her mother, she was affectionately known as “the cookie lady.” Her big smile and infectious giggle were her signature—instantly recognizable and impossible to forget.
She is preceded in death by her husband Phil; her parents; her sister Kati Kaaz (spouse Dick); and her brother Bob Winge. Ginger is survived by her children Deanna Aull (spouse Eric) and Debbie Schwartzkopf (spouse Tim); her five grandchildren Alex (spouse Andrea Montoya) Aull, Blake Aull, Collin Aull, Abigail Schwartzkopf, and Ryan Schwartzkopf; and by her great grandson Ansel Aull (parents Alex and Andrea) – each of whom she adored.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Old Mission United Methodist Church (5519 State Park Road Fairway, KS 66205) on August 22, 2026 at 1:00PM, with a light reception immediately following in the Hanson Hall. A private gathering will be held in Fort Scott, Kansas for her inurnment.
Ginger’s legacy is one of warmth, generosity, and joy. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
