William “Bill” Charles Campbell, 82, passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2026, at 7:35 a.m., surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on June 5, 1944, Bill lived a life defined by faith, service, integrity, hard work, and an unwavering love for his family. A proud Vietnam veteran, he answered his country’s call with honor and carried that same quiet strength throughout every chapter of his life.

Bill was a man of many talents. He was an inventor, entrepreneur, gifted craftsman, and someone who believed there was no problem that couldn’t be solved with enough thought, patience, and determination. Meticulous in everything he did, he had an extraordinary attention to detail and a mind that never stopped creating. If something needed to be built, repaired, or improved, Bill could do it.

Although his accomplishments were many, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. He was the kind of father every child hopes to have—steadfast, patient, selfless, and always present. He coached both of his daughters’ softball teams, encouraged every dream, celebrated every success, and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy, and some of his happiest moments were simply being surrounded by those he loved. He especially loved cooking for his family, and his grandchildren will always remember waking up to Grandpa in the kitchen making them breakfast—especially his famous eggs, made with love and served with a smile.

Bill had a passion for life that was reflected in his many interests. He was a college athlete who loved competition, raced stock cars, took pride in his beloved 1965 Chevelle SS, enjoyed gardening and planting, and rarely missed watching Royals baseball, professional football, or cheering for both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Perhaps Bill’s greatest gift was the way he made people feel. He had a calming presence that brought comfort to those around him. He listened without judgment, gave generously of his time, and quietly helped countless people without ever expecting recognition. Nearly everyone who knew Bill has a story about a time he stepped in to help, offered wise advice, or simply showed up when he was needed most. His kindness, humility, generosity, and unwavering willingness to serve others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

That generous spirit extended far beyond those he knew personally. Bill faithfully supported St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the American Red Cross, believing deeply in helping others and giving back whenever he could.

Even during his battle with cancer, Bill demonstrated remarkable courage, grace, and perseverance. He faced every challenge with quiet determination and steadfast faith, never allowing his illness to define him. His strength inspired all who walked beside him, and he remained, until the very end, the calm and steady presence his family had always known.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alma Campbell, and his brother, Jack Campbell.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Penny Campbell; his daughters, Melinda Vandewynkle and her husband, Jason, and Melissa Campbell and her husband, Brian Price; his grandchildren, William and his girlfriend, Madi, and their daughter, Skylar; Jase, Paisley, Jack, Charles, Katherine, and Isabella; his half-siblings, Lyn, Elena, and Dennis; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever changed by knowing him.

A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Fiorella’s Event Space in Overland Park, Kansas. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor a man whose legacy of faith, generosity, strength, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
