Gary Lee TenEyck, 83, of Paxico, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Gary was born on October 14, 1942, in McFarland, Kansas, to Elmer TenEyck and Loma (Mueller) TenEyck. He spent his early years in North Kansas City, Missouri, where he graduated from high school before attending William Jewell College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in education.
Gary began his career as a teacher, inspiring students in both Kearney, Missouri, and the North Kansas City School District. He later transitioned into educational sales, where he combined his passion for education with his outgoing personality, working with schools throughout the region selling books, maps and other educational resources.
Gary was an avid outdoorsman who found joy on the golf course, in the woods during hunting season, and on the water fishing. He was also a devoted sports fan who rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. More than anything, Gary treasured time spent with family and friends and will be remembered for his kind heart, easy conversation, and genuine love of people.
Gary is survived by his sister, Jane Hunter; his grandchildren, Dylan Swords and Elliott Swords; and many beloved nieces and nephews throughout the Kansas City area, all of whom will cherish his memory. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Babe, his faithful companion and constant friend for the past five years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judith TenEyck; his parents, Elmer TenEyck and Loma Hughes; and his sisters, Dorothy Smith, Judy Hunter, and Susan Rawlings.
In accordance with Gary's wishes, a celebration of his life will be held with family and friends at a later date. His ashes will be scattered in the beautiful Flint Hills of Kansas, a place that reflected his love for the outdoors and the natural beauty of his home state.
Gary's life was marked by his love of family, dedication to education, appreciation for the outdoors, and unwavering loyalty to his favorite teams. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
