Carter Ridgely Harrison Jr., 80, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on March 23, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri, Carter was the son of Carter Ridgely Harrison and Joan Fitts. He grew up in Kansas City alongside his siblings: Sallie, Susie Cindy and Scott.
The greatest joy of Carter's life was his family. He shared 48 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Fay Hoxie Harrison, building a life centered on love and adventure. Together they raised two children: son Ridgely and daughter Catherine. Carter and Fay delight in the love of their four grandchildren: Sunshine and Webb Harrison, and Taylor and Cameron Krajewski.
Carter attended Pembroke Country Day School for Boys. After high school graduation, he attended and graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Following college, he proudly served his country in the United States Army before earning his master’s in business from University of Kansas City, Missouri.
He enjoyed a successful career that spanned five decades in investment management where he was highly regarded as one of the top institutional consultants in the country. Carter was proud of the time he spent with First National Bank of Kansas City, DeMarche, Invesco, and ultimately FCI Advisors until 2025.
While Carter accomplished much professionally, his true legacy was the life he built with his family. He believed there was no place better than around the dinner table, where stories were shared, laughter was abundant, and everyone felt welcome.
He found joy in both playing and watching golf, enthusiastically cheering—and often yelling—at the television during sporting events. He was an avid reader with interests ranging from novels to any financial publications he could get his hands on. His grandchildren knew him for his fondness of Aloha shirts, funny socks, pickles, olives, and, perhaps most famously, bags of ice. You can never have enough ice!
Carter and Fay shared a passion for travel, exploring the world together with family and dear friends. Yet no destination ever surpassed his favorite place on earth—the family cottage at Plum Lake in northern Wisconsin. For 80 consecutive summers, Carter returned to the lake he loved. The time he spent at Plum created generations of memories that will continue through his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Fay; his son, Ridgely (Danielle) Harrison; his daughter, Catherine (Stefan) Krajewski; his four grandchildren, Sunshine, Webb, Taylor, and Cameron; his siblings, Sallie (Tom) Brodhay, Susie (Steve) Peterson, Cindy Harrison, and Scott (Mary) Harrison; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 11th at Village Presbyterian Church at 6641 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, KS with a reception at the church following.
