Linda Lee King Mook passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, leaving behind a family and countless friends whose lives were forever changed by her extraordinary capacity to love.

To know Linda was to know kindness. She had a rare gift for making people feel valued, welcomed, and deeply loved. Whether she was caring for her family, encouraging a student, cheering from the sidelines of a soccer field, or quietly helping someone in need, Linda gave of herself without hesitation. Her life was not defined by what she accomplished, but by the countless lives she touched through her generosity, compassion, and unwavering devotion to others.

Born to Bernley and Betty King, Linda grew up surrounded by a close-knit family that remained at the center of her life. She shared a lifelong bond with her sisters, Peggy, Frances, and Judy, and her brother, Ronnie. Even while raising her two sons, David and Steven Ireland, in Virginia, Linda made the journey back to Missouri as often as she could because being with family was never an obligation—it was where she found her greatest joy. Later in life, she moved to Kansas City area to once again be close to those she loved.

Family was always Linda's highest calling. Every decision she made reflected her desire to give her children every opportunity and every reason to know they were loved. She refereed youth soccer games so she could spend more time with her boys. She sewed costumes for school plays and community theater productions. She celebrated milestones both big and small and had an incredible ability to make ordinary moments feel special. She never sought recognition for these acts—they were simply expressions of who she was.

Later in life, Linda found another great blessing when she met Jerry Mook. Together they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering support. Jerry provided the care, security, companionship, and stability that allowed Linda to flourish, and she embraced not only their marriage but also her role as a devoted stepmother with the same warmth and unconditional love she gave to everyone fortunate enough to be part of her family. Jerry passed away three years ago, and while his loss was profound, the years they shared remained among the happiest of Linda's life.

If there was one group of people who held a truly special place in Linda's heart, it was children. She adored her three grandchildren, Katelyn, Brooke, and Taylor, and treasured every opportunity to watch them grow. Being their Grammie was one of the greatest joys of her life, and she delighted in celebrating each of their unique personalities, accomplishments, and dreams.

Linda's kindness extended well beyond her own family. Blessed with an exceptional mind and a lifelong love of learning, she earned a degree in mathematics and often laughed as she recalled being the only woman in her college mathematics program. It was an achievement she mentioned with humor rather than pride, simply another chapter in a life marked by quiet determination. She went on to become a gifted educator whose patience, encouragement, and genuine care inspired generations of students. Linda believed every child was capable of succeeding if someone simply believed in them first, and she devoted her career to being that person.

Those who knew Linda will remember her gentle spirit, her quiet strength, her creativity, and her remarkable ability to make everyone around her feel at home. She never needed to be the center of attention. Instead, she found fulfillment in lifting others up, solving problems, offering encouragement, and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerome B. (Jerry) Mook; her parents, Bernley and Betty King; her sister, Judy King; her stepson, Jerome Mook; and her stepdaughter, Michelle Mook.

She is survived by her sons, David Ireland and Steven Ireland; her stepchildren, Elizabeth Zishka, Jon Mook, and Andrea Zimmerman; her cherished grandchildren, Katelyn, Brooke, and Taylor; her sisters, Peggy Crawford and Fran Milligan; her brother, Ronnie King; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, former students, and dear friends who will forever be grateful for the love she shared so freely.

If Linda taught us anything, it was that the greatest legacy we leave behind is not measured by awards or accomplishments, but by the lives we touch and the love we give. She believed family was worth every mile traveled, every late night, every sacrifice, and every celebration. Her children, grandchildren, students, and all who were fortunate enough to know her are better because she was here.

Her love will continue to live on in each of us.

A private family service will be held at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa.
