Kenneth “K.V.” Vern Coons Jr., 70, passed away on July 30, 2026, in Ozawkie, Kansas. He was born on October 4, 1955, in Denver, Colorado, to Kenneth Coons Sr. and Sherri McCarty.
K.V. grew up in the Ottawa, Kansas, area and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1974. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, stationed in California as well as Japan. He was honorably discharged following his service.
In 1975, K.V. married Cheryl Turner, and together they had a son, Kevin. They later divorced.
Throughout his lifetime, K.V. worked in a variety of jobs. He spent time working at Lacy Steel in Lawrence, Kansas, where he worked as a painter and shipper.
K.V. had a love for the open road and the freedom that came with riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors.
K.V. lived his life in his own way, leaving behind memories that will remain with those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 10:00 AM, at Heritage Baptist Church in Lawrence, Kansas.
He will be missed and forever remembered.
