Richard Joseph Bonn, affectionately known as “Rich,” died on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the age of 68, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Rich is survived by his loving sisters Paula Marie Bonn and Nancy Marie Bonn-Winkler; brother-in-law Gregory Winkler; and adoring niece Sara Marie Winkler. He will be deeply missed by many cherished friends from his old south St. Louis neighborhood, classmates from Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Mary’s High School, his proud Marine brothers, and his Kansas City community.
Following high school, Rich honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. A Marine through and through, he took immense pride in his military service and formed lifelong bonds. He was last stationed in beautiful Hawaii. Semper Fidelis and Oorah!
After his military service, Rich relocated from St. Louis to Kansas City, where he dedicated his career to working as a lineman for the phone company until his well-earned retirement. An avid outdoorsman at heart, Rich loved fishing, hunting, and sharing memorable adventures with friends. He especially enjoyed his trip with friends to Canada.
Rich lived life fully, enjoying the simple pleasures of a good conversation, great company, a little drink, a bit of gambling, and a lot of laughs. His infectious smile and lighthearted spirit could brighten any room. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
A mass honoring Rich will be held at 10:00 on Saturday, August 29, at Holy Infant Parish Church, 248 New Ballwin Rd. Ballwin, MO 63021. Military honors will be observed.
