In Loving Memory

February 13, 1931 - September 2, 2026

Margaret Ann “Peggy” Smith (nee Stockley), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away in Overland Park, KS on September 2, 2026, at the age of 95. She was born February 13, 1931 in Kansas City to William and Marie Stockley where she grew up and attended school.

In 1948, Peggy graduated from Paseo High School in the business program and worked at Business Men’s Assurance Co. for 2 years.  She met Lyman Smith and was later married in Hereford, Texas on April 15, 1950.  Together, they began a life rooted in their Catholic faith and centered on the family they built with their five sons.  She enjoyed an active lifestyle supporting the children’s sporting activities, knitting, bowling, playing cards and traveling on family vacations.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Lyman; sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Vandzandt (nee Stockley); brother, Jack Stockley. She was also preceded in death by her son, Thomas Smith. 

She is survived by her children, Stephen (Gloria), Charles (Debbie), Martin (Jaci) and Joe (Lynn); Daughter-in-Law, Bonnie Smith; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Peggy’s greatest legacy is the family she loved and the stories and memories she leaves behind.  She will be remembered for her love of family and her care for others around her.  Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the family she loved so dearly.

Services: A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 103rd St, Overland Park, KS 66214 at 11:00 AM (Rosary at 10:45 AM). Interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, 8300 Quivira Road, Lenexa, KS 66215 following the Mass.
