Mark Stephen Groves, 66, passed away on September 16, 2026, surrounded by his family. He will be remembered as a man of quiet strength.
Mark graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha.
From 1983 to 1998, he worked in engineering roles at Smith & Loveless, Wenger International, Aurora Pump, and Mid-America Pump. In 2001 he transitioned careers, earning certification as a pharmacy technician and working for the University of Kansas Hospital, CVS and Walgreens.
Mark was a man of few words but expressed his love in many ways. Sometimes it was just sending a random card in the mail to let you know he was thinking about you. He frequently donated blood to community blood banks and offered rides to neighbors needing a lift to work, church, or the store.
He was a lifelong reader, often sharing books with his niece. Mark was ornery and jovial with his nieces and nephews, forever teasing them to get a laugh.
He had a special place in his heart for dogs, and spoiled his beloved pets, Aubie and Cassie, who gave him years of companionship and love.
A true sports fan at heart, Mark cheered on hockey, football, baseball, and basketball, always rooting hardest for his beloved KC Chiefs.
He found joy in the little things: his sister's homemade cream puffs, a good movie, live music, a long road trip with no particular schedule, barbecue, and strawberry shakes. He always looked forward to holidays and family gatherings at his brothers' homes.
In his later years, Mark leaned more into his faith, finding comfort and community at Church of the Resurrection, where he attended Saturday night and Sunday morning services.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Groves and Bobbie Mae (Guillot) Groves. He is survived by his sister, Karen Groves of Overland Park, Kansas; and his brothers, Mike Groves (Carol) of Gardner, Kansas, Paul Groves (Kelly) of Overland Park, Kansas including many nieces, nephews and their families.
Mark was a believer in Christ, and is now reunited with his parents in Heaven.
