Debra Leigh Wiggins passed away on Sunday, Sept 13, 2026 at Advent Health in Merriam, KS due to heart issues with complications.

Deb Wiggins was a woman of warmth, wisdom, and boundless energy. Born on March 24, 1950, in McPherson, Kansas, Deb spent her formative years in this close-knit community, where she attended local schools and graduated from McPherson High School in 1968. Her academic journey continued at Salt City Business College, where she honed her business skills, setting the foundation for a fulfilling career.

Deb's professional life was marked by dedication and perseverance. She began her career at Great American Life Insurance, where she worked diligently until the company closed its doors. She then joined American Family Insurance, working with Glen Carlton until his retirement. It was then that Deb decided to embrace retirement herself, eventually transitioning to Kansas City, to be closer to her daughter, son in law & granddaughter.

Throughout her life, Deb was known for her vivacious spirit and a heart full of generosity. Her love for family was unparalleled, and she took immense pride in the accomplishments of her daughter, Angela Fernandez, and her granddaughter, Allyson Fernandez. Deb's eyes would light up with joy as she watched Allyson participate in various activities, always the proud and supportive grandmother.

Deb shared her life with three remarkable partners. Deb married James Langston, who passed away of medical complications in 1975, leaving her with cherished memories. She then married Steve Hoskinson, with whom she welcomed her beloved daughter, Angela. Later in life, Deb found love again with Duke Wiggins, sharing 30 years together until his passing. Family was the cornerstone of Deb's life. She is survived by her devoted daughter Angela and son-in-law Dan Fernandez, her treasured granddaughter Allyson, her older brother Rick Johnson and his wife Kay, and her younger sister Pam Martinson and her husband Glenn. Deb also leaves behind a legacy of love with her nieces and nephew, who were all touched by her warmth and kindness. Deb was preceded in death by her first husband, James Langston; her parents Donald & Alvine (Nicky) Johnson; and by previous husband Duke Wiggins.

Deb's vibrant personality left an indelible mark on those around her. She was a person known for her infectious enthusiasm and unwavering support for her family and friends. Her laughter and zest for life will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As a family, we will remember Deb in the laughter & joy that she shared with us during her lifetime.

In honoring the wishes of Deb, no public services are planned. A private family Celebration of Life (for the immediate family) will be held at a later date. If you have a special memory of Deb, we'd love to hear it! The family will read these memories together, during this private family event.
