Lynnette Gleason, age 81, passed away on September 29, 2026, in Basehor, Kansas.
Born in Hammond, Indiana, Lynnette lived a quiet and private life centered on the people she loved most. While still a young woman, she met Wendell Gleason while he was serving in the United States Army and stationed in Munster, Indiana. That meeting began the defining love story of her life.
Lynnette and Wendell were married for 39 years, building a life and family together until his passing in December 2005. She loved him deeply, and the bond they shared remained an important part of her life long after his death.
Together, Lynnette and Wendell raised two sons, Kevin Gleason and his wife, Annette, and Todd Gleason and his wife, Sandi. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: David, Janine, Vanessa, Daniel, Desiree, Justin, John, and Russell, and she was blessed with seven great-grandchildren.
Lynnette was a private person who found happiness in the simple things. She loved to read, enjoyed working through her word-search books, and valued the time she spent visiting and sharing life with her friends. She did not seek attention or recognition, but instead lived in the way that suited her best—quietly, independently, and surrounded by the people and things that brought her comfort.
The Army became woven into the story of Lynnette’s life in a very personal way. As a young woman, she fell in love with an Army soldier. Years later, she raised a son who would also become an Army soldier. It is fitting that her final resting place will be beside Wendell, where she will be laid to rest with the husband she loved so deeply in a national cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
For those who knew Lynnette, her life was not defined by public accomplishments or grand gestures, but by devotion, loyalty, family, friendship, and a love that endured across a lifetime.
After more than twenty years apart, Lynnette and Wendell will once again rest side by side.
She will be deeply missed by her sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and all those who loved her.
